After installing Linux 2.6.31-21-generic #59 from karmic-proposed the bug appears to be gone. My computer no longer freezes after resuming from suspend. The error shown in #10 is also gone. I got the idea to install the new kernel from this bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/404064.
