I am having a similar problem with the released version of 9.10 (fully patched to date).
I am running a Panasonic CF-W4 notebook, it has Intel 915GM chipset. The internal display is 1024x768 and it works (though I do get funny blits of garbage now and then--this did not happen in 9.04). I have an external Acer display that is 1440x900, but it won't work beyond 1052x864. This monitor used to work great as 1440x900 under 9.04.
