This is the other bug report I suspect is the same problem https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- manager/+bug/432835 on both the 4810T and 5810T the keys failed to work earlier than at one point during karmic alpha testing the keys started working but produced no actual brightness change unless you reset xrandr by using "xrandr --output LVDS --set BACKLIGHT_CONTROL native" then we progressed to the brightness keys killing the touchpad, and now brightness keys cause complete system freeze.
