Tried again with Ubuntu (instead of Kubuntu this time) 10.4 Alpha 3 and Catalyst 10.1 drivers. Installation of the drivers went over fine. The error display is the same "dlopen: /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.so: undefined symbol: UpdateSpriteForScreen" as reported with Kubuntu 10.4 Alpha 2.
