Thanks for that advice, can confirm that fix/workaround did the job for me!
Tested connecting via RealVNC viewer from WinXP to Ubuntu x64 with Nvidia card
and at first had frozen display (which I could see mouse interacting with on
the actual computer screen next to it)
Once I enabled the Xdamage option and reconnected I then started getting screen
updates on VNC!
Big thanks as I have several PC's with Nvidia cards and the lack of
remote desktop control has been a PITA!
