Yes!!! I left ubuntu's live cd inside the computer and, after a long while, it stepped out from hangin' on. After spending a lot of thoughts, X decided to switch to fbdevhw drivers. Now I can send you all the log from this experience.
In xorg.0.log there are also some clue that nouveau support nvidia cards up to geforce 8: does it means that all subsequent 9800 (like mine) and gtx 200 are not served? If true, this is quite bad, since it means that we are talking about all the last 4-5 years graphics card. Surely is discouraging for the average user from installing ubuntu on his computer. Maybe I just misunderstood the xorg.log, or at leat I hope to. I have also a laptop with an nvidia quadro: tomorrow I'll put it under test too.
