I can confirm this problem on a ThinkPad X40 with Intel Corporation 82852/855GM Integrated Graphics Device. Sometimes the mouse pointer disapears and only a "snowy" square is displayed instead. Sometimes the the pointer and square is displayed. The square seems to cover the area in which the pointer displays i.e. startup feedback (jumping icons in KDE).
