I believe it's "nouveau.modeset=1", and I tried this with no success (I'm not sure this option is even supported in the packaged version). I don't see nouveau in xorg edgers ppa. I'd build it myself, but nouveau kernel module doesn't have a "friendly" way to do it (they have a full clone of linux kernel in their git) .
