I've got a fully updated 64-bit Karmic on a Toshiba Satellite A300-1ID, and I'm still seeing a kernel panic at bootup when attempting to use the fglrx driver. The proprietary driver used to work on Jaunty 64-bit. I'd rather use the free driver, but it lacks proper power management, raising the laptop's average temperature from 38ºC to 50ºC and cutting on the battery time.
