It seems I can confirm this on a Dell D600. Even xorg-edgers _lucid_ (including mouse, evdev, synaptics, xorg-server 1.7.99 etc.) does not seem to solve the problem. Tried around with some HAL policy changes as well (with hal/gdm stop+start cycle), but didn't find anything I could switch that would help somehow (evdev -> synaptics and vice versa, either did not help or something stopped working).
