Public bug reported: Reported here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/-/issues/1827 - asked to report to Ubuntu specifically.
I cannot login to plasma/wayland from sddm on Kubuntu 25.04 as of June 18th. However, if I switch to a text mode TTY, I can startplasma-wayland, which then subsequently works without issue. According to Claude's analysis of my logs: DRM Context Switch Sequence: 1. SDDM (uid=sddm) holds DRM master on /dev/dri/card0 2. User session (uid=1000) requests DRM master transfer 3. AMDGPU attempts hardware page flip to switch framebuffers 4. Hardware operation fails with EINVAL (Invalid argument) 5. Display remains blank, user session cannot acquire proper GPU control ``` FAILED SEQUENCE (SDDM → Wayland): jun 24 05:03:45 lights kwin_wayland_wrapper[2635]: kwin_scene_opengl: 0x2: GL_INVALID_VALUE in glTexStorage2D(width, height or depth < 1) jun 24 05:03:45 lights kwin_wayland_wrapper[2635]: kwin_scene_opengl: Invalid framebuffer status: "GL_FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT" jun 24 05:03:45 lights kwin_wayland_wrapper[2635]: kwin_scene_opengl: 0x2: GL_INVALID_OPERATION in glBindFramebuffer(non-gen name) jun 24 05:03:45 lights kwin_wayland_wrapper[2635]: kwin_scene_opengl: 0x2: GL_INVALID_FRAMEBUFFER_OPERATION in glClear(incomplete framebuffer) ``` ``` WORKING SEQUENCE (TTY → Wayland): jun 24 05:18:57 lights dbus-daemon[1059]: [system] Activating via systemd: service name='org.freedesktop.locale1' unit='dbus-org.freedesktop.locale1.service' requested by ':1.153' (uid=1000 pid=5567 comm="startplasma-wayland" label="unconfined") jun 24 05:18:58 lights systemd[2206]: Starting plasma-kwin_wayland.service - KDE Window Manager... jun 24 05:18:58 lights systemd[2206]: Started plasma-kwin_wayland.service - KDE Window Manager. jun 24 05:18:58 lights kwin_wayland_wrapper[5609]: No backend specified, automatically choosing drm jun 24 05:19:02 lights systemd[2206]: Reached target plasma-workspace-wayland.target. After these updates, I've had the reported problem every time.
