While there's a lot going wrong with the i915 driver, it could be a
hardware fault or it could be the EVDI driver interfering. To test the
latter, please try uninstalling 'evdi-dkms'. If you need DisplayLink
support, I have personally  found the official driver from the
manufacturer to be more reliable:
