Public bug reported: Xdiagnose installation recently failed in a dpkg issue (LP:2084825). That was addressed but raised the question: Do we still need this package?
It has mostly been idle through the decade and there are very few mentions to it in the whole Internet. The program xdiagnose itself showed Xorg log (it doesn't anymore since the logs go now in .local/share/xorg instead of /var/log), allowed to file a bug report which is essentially just calling Apport, and had a couple of configuration options to tweak the kernel arguments; Exhaustively: *1st checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”drm.debug=0xe plymouth:debug” *2nd checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=”quiet splash” *3rd checkbox probably only configures Whoopsie. *4th checkbox toggles GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=text *5th checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="vesafb.invalid=1” *6th checkbox toggles GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="nopat" It would be furthermore used by Xorg's bug reporting Apport hook if present; In practice that is seldom the case. As development and the distribution itself shift away from Xorg to Wayland, it is not worth to keep this package in the archive. ---> % apt rdepends xdiagnose xdiagnose Reverse Depends: <--- ** Affects: xdiagnose (Ubuntu) Importance: Wishlist Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2089262 Title: Removal of Xdiagnose from universe for 25.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdiagnose/+bug/2089262/+subscriptions _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
