I've made some tests, here are the results: test#1) I've booted up my most current Karmic with default options (ro splash in grub.conf) and then I switched to tty1 and stopped the gdm with "sudo stop gdm" command. After that I ran "sudo pm-suspend" command. My notebook went to spleep, but it couldn't wake up at all. Just a blank screen appeared and I couldn't switch to another tty. The LED of the caps lock key was blinking.
test#2) I've booted up the same system with "ro text" options in the grub.conf. I didn't do anything special, just took a look at the output of the "lsmod | grep ati" command. I realised, that ati_agp is loaded. After that, I ran the "sudo pm-suspend" command. The notebook went to sleep, and surprising, it was waken up successfully when I pressed the power key. :-) After it waked up, I started the Gnome with "startx". When the Gnome was started, I switched to tty1 and stopped it with "sudo stop gdm" command. I ran "sudo pm-suspend" and my computer went to sleep. But after that, it couldn't wake up, I had only a black screen and a blinking caps lock led, such as in test#1. :-( I hope this informations could help to fix this bug.
