Yes, libinput has "palm detection" which sounds like the problem here.

Try this:

  sudo apt install libinput-tools
  libinput measure touch-size

But regardless, please also report the bug upstream at:

  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/groups/libinput/-/issues

and then tell us the new issue ID.
