I have a similar problem in Ubuntu 20.04
Dell Precision 5510.

The touchpad randomly ignores 'clicks'. (both mechanical and touch
clicks).

I get similar results from xinput --list:

$ xinput --list
⎡ Virtual core pointer id=2 [master pointer (3)]
⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4 [slave pointer (2)]
⎜   ↳ PS/2 Generic Mouse                        id=16   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ DLL06E5:01 06CB:7A13 Mouse                id=11   [slave  pointer  (2)]
⎜   ↳ DLL06E5:01 06CB:7A13 Touchpad             id=12   [slave  pointer  (2)]

AND, have similar errors in the boot and shutdown log files:

psmouse serio1: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio1
psmouse serio1: Failed to enable mouse on isa0060/serio1
psmouse serio1: Failed to deactivate mouse on isa0060/serio1: -5
