I see that this is a really old bug. But I am seeing something recently that is odd. I have bash functions that have worked for _years_ to set the title using the ESC ] 2 ; blah BEL sequence. And what I see now is that in a particular xterm they work for a while, and then stop working. If I get a fresh xterm, then they work for a while again (of course). Seems something inside xterm is getting turned off, but I don't know what or how to turn it back on ...
