I didn't have a reliable way of reproducing exactly this scenario, so I can't definitively say whether or not it's still present (I'm currently running 17.10). I have experienced similar GUI hangs (but ssh still responds) in 17.10, but not specifically while watching an embedded youtube video in Chromium. (Most recently the symptom occurred while I was in a full-screen virt-manager window, watching a shared desktop presentation via Skype for Business in Windows. The Windows VM seemed to suffer no ill effect. Unfortunately, I did not bother to save the logs, etc, from that occasion.)
