Christopher, I can't really say, the first thing i did when i encountered this issue is try the default kernel, the one that is shipped and maintained by Canonical.
Noting that the issue also occured with the default kernel i ruled that out as a cause and went one trying to find a solution. So in short, i haven't really kept track of improvements or worsening of the problem running different kernels. I only confirmed the problem also happens using default kernel.
