My apologies. Real life is getting in the way of tracking this bug at the moment.
The problems occurred to me personally on this laptop and it is my believe that when I originally upgraded to 15.10 from 14.04 it was fine, but sometime later I started having problems with applications that switched graphics modes to full screen. When switching back or when the volume popups appeared it would freeze my X session. But the OS was still running in the background. My problem is that I am having troubles reproducing the problem reliably at the moment and finding an open source game that reproduces the problem. I had worked around the problems with videos in Chrome which was my main problem.
