After 45 minutes and trying several different suggested solutions, scripts and adding genmon leading to repeated black screen episodes I found a very simple solution. Turn off hardware acceleration in chrome. Thought I would come back and post a update so maybe someone else might try that first before posting here or adding scripts and programs.
