Interesting. Running Ubuntu 9.10 my monitor is also detected as "Unknown". Here I get a max res. of 800x600. But running Ubuntu 9.04 my monitor is also detected as "Unknown" . Here I get a max res. of 1152x864.
Where did you find the patches you mentioned?
