The easiest way to fix this without installing extra packages (like cheese), is:
1. Downgrade the parts of the enablement stack that caused the problem sudo apt-get install --install-recommends xserver-xorg libgl1-mesa-glx libegl1-mesa-drivers 2. (Optional) Clean up extra packages sudo apt-get autoremove 3. Install fglrx sudo apt-get install fglrx 4. Reboot.
