This annoying bug has been resolved upstream with a very simple one-line change http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-intel/commit/?id=a88795c64123e4084044451d8861838ea904abd9 . It would be great if it could be applied to the ubuntu package.
