I have this problem too and have reported in Bug 430851 for Blender. Now I found this bug. My graphic card is [Radeon Xpress 200. I can't select objects in blender. My system is jaunty 9.04. I use radeon driver. When I start blender with console and try to select, there comes this warning message.
