I'm suffering the same problem but not under ubuntu, I have a XE700T1C- A02US which is now running Gentoo. The device is detected as a USB HID mouse during boot, and xinput sees it as USB Keyboard+SmartPad, so none of the psmouse elantech tricks appear to work. No one elsewhere seems to mention the same USB vid/pid combination with regards to linux. I'm running the latest kernel (3.12.2 at the time of writing). Any tests I could run or information I can provide, just let me know, I'm eager to get this problem solved (primarily to turn off tapping).
