It is my intention to remain on 12.04 for the foreseeable future and I
currently have a fairly slow internet connection, so using a current
version is infeasible.

I have noticed that this behavior appears to be cycling the video setup
according to some pattern; e.g. switching to mirrored displays (I'm
currently using 2 monitors), or swapping monitor placement. The results
of this switching seem to be better-behaved recently and it seems like
this may be a "feature" instead of a bug. I recall reading at some
point that Microsoft had proposed automatically switching video display
setups when the user presses the 'Windows' key and the 'P' key together,
but have been unable to locate that information again. If this is a
feature, is it possible to find some way to disable it? I have turned
off every key binding I can find in the configuration (since I use emacs
and these bindings generally cause problems) but this behavior remains.
