This would happen if you let xorg* packages upgrade ahead of the Mir PPA...
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu2b1
is later than:
xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.2-0ubuntu2+xmir1
The fix is to make sure the Mir PPA gets pinned per these instructions:
http://unity.ubuntu.com/mir/installing_prebuilt_on_pc.html
Then you will have the Mir version of Xorg installed and it won't crash
when passed Mir-specific flags.
