This bug has been fix for 2-3 weeks. The bug certainly wasn't in synaptics since I also used mtrack for many months, and it affected the keyboard too. The keyboard and trackpad only worked by switching to console 6 then back to console 7 (which was not easy since the keyboard was not reliably sending they key presses).
