I tried the method described by daniel @ 22 of deleting all the meta- modes except the one I wanted. This did not work. On restarting the computer, it used a refresh rate which I did not set. All of the meta- modes which I had deleted were undeleted. I did not make daniel's modifications to xorg.conf.
