I have the same problem. 12.10, 64 bit. Every day or 2 I get a complete freeze - no mouse/keyboard repsonse, screen does not change (clock does not advance), no ssh/ping reply. Nothing in logs. I've been seeing this on several different PCs through few versions of Ubuntu (all 64 bit) for at least 18months. Never see this on a machine running 32bit.
