So, I have eventually ended up switching out my videocards in my laptop and replacing with GeForce.. no problems at all now ;)
But, I DID notice this from the most recent Catalyst (9.8) release notes ; [RandR 1.2] Monitor detection now functions properly, client no longer takes several seconds per monitor May be worth someone giving that new version a try ?
