If you want something more official/normal, 295.49-0ubuntu0.1 is
available for precise in nvidia-current-updates.
The worseness in precise with the old driver should be party fixed by
unity 5.12-0ubuntu1.1, which fixes bug #987304. This might also provide
a further performance boost with the 295.49-0ubuntu0.1 and
295.53-0ubuntu1 drivers and later.
