worth noting that I'm not 100% the hyperlinks are really activating upon click (in the video I said that they were). Although my wifi starts to blink, I think the mouse cursor would change if a click on a hyperlink was actually doing anything/following the link. I should run a tcpdump next time to check, but it may not be relevant to the problem anyway.
