I agree, 3d may be the issue. I have a Nvidia graphics card I'm running from and have been testing on 2d for 2 days now, I haven't been able to reproduce the freeze. Although I can't stand the 2d environment, it is stable so far, not one problem. Hopefully some developers notice this ;-)
