Thanks, alright that fits then with the idea that the EDID is just bad.

So, definitely try collecting the EDID blob via the get-edid tool (from
read-edid).  That code uses a different mechanism for collecting the
edid, so that hopefully distinguish if the EDID really is bad on the
hardware, or if there's a flaw in X's edid parser.
