The workaround does not work for me either. sleep 5 in /etc/init/lightdm.conf still didn't work, but if I put "service lightdm start" in rc.local that works. Intel i3-550, geforce GT 430, single monitor, Ubuntu 11.10, nvidia-current 280.13-0ubuntu
