I have the same problem with Oneiric for every user on my laptop. But i have found a disgusting way to pass the problem for the time being. Put the next statement in the Startup Applications Preferences for every user: 'pkexec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --set-brightness X' where X is a number from 0 till 7, 0 is low and 7 is high brightness.
