Great work, Seth! I've been following
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/760142, as my Alps
touchpad was not recognised at all, so I thought that this was a different
problem. I applied your patch out of curiosity and now my Alps touchpad is
recognised correctly and works.
Not sure if this is related, but after the first reboot, when I tried to post a
comment, my computer froze completely (unresponsive to touchpad, trackpoint and
keyboard) and I had to shut down using the power button. After reboot, touchpad
was disabled, but I could re-enable it using my trackpoint and now everything
seems to be working. Hope the freeze was just a last hickup...

Would it be possible to change the title of this bug to reflect that the
fix also works if the touchpad was NOT recognised at all?

Cheers
Stan
