Try opening a playlist window or toggle advanced preferences. I have deleted the entire vlc configuration directory but as soon as playlist is toggled vlc does not start. And it it happens on 2 different computers: one with Intel card and another one with Nvidia card, both updated to the latest qt4-x11.
