Just tried the 9.10 alpha3 livecd, and it boots very well, just a bit slow (it took about 10 minutes to boot) but that's because of the age of the computer.
The serial mouse still isn't working out of the box though, but it never did since I started using ubuntu 3 years ago. I used to fix this by messing around in xorg.conf which did the trick. In Windows XP the mouse works OK. I don't know if it's reasonable to try to get that fixed, probably not any more, since we're talking of hardware that's pretty old. (some parts are more than 10 years old). If it could be fixed that would be great of course, but I understand there may be more important things to fix.
