Something has changed, whilst starting up in the latest kernel shows no screen (kinda like blindtyping here) there is a backlit screen after logon of user. However, the brightness control seems to have traded places. I.e. the left brightness down key INCREASES brightness, whilst the right brightness up key DECREASES the amount of backlit-ism.
