Also i think its trying to display gdm not freezing. You just cant ctrl alt del out of it because it brought down your keyboard. Once gdm loads the keyboard would normally be brought back up. You should notice, or at least it did for me the keyboard lights shutting off right after plymouth finishes. After about 2 or 3 minutes it will restart on its own.
