I was talking to the guys and gals over in #ubuntu-x yesterday about 730099, 
and it was suggested I try a non-ubuntu system and kernel.
So it reminded me, only a couple of weeks ago, I had debian sid, with a kernel 
from debian experimental on my eeepc. And didnt have any gpu lockup errors.
if this is of any help, i dont know, but it answers the question, they asked me 
to test.
