This isn't an Ubuntu-specific issue: I use Kubuntu 9.04 with kde 4.3rc2 installed from the backports, and it doesn't happen there. However, at work I use a Debian squeeze machine with kde 4.2.2, and there it happens quite often, which is incredibly annoying. So maybe it would be a good idea to explicitly work with upstream on this one?
