Hey there, I had a similar problem. I installed Ubuntu 10.10 netbook edition in a partition on a Acer Aspire. I did this using a USB. After install I reset the BIOS boot queue to its original settings. Every time I boot the netbook with any mass storage device plugged in to USB (flashdrive, ipod, 'phone) I get the black screen with cursor (it boots ok with a mouse). If I pull out USB devices, it begins to boot as normal.
