I've reinstalled Ubuntu using the Ubuntu 10.04.1 live-cd (32-bit) and then upgraded to Ubuntu 10.10. I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 with nouveau on my nvidia ion hardware right now. The bug seems to be somewhere else in the live-cd, e.g. casper. Therefore I propose to divide my problem from the problem of Martin O'Mahony.
