Alright, I hope that helps you guys help me out better. I'm using the
Monitor Preferences application which comes standard with Gnome (and was
used inside of Gnome, I have no other WMs on this machine). I tried to
select it and turn it on, and even though it detects, there is no way to
set the resolution or other settings, and the display remains dark.
