This issue still occurs in karmic. I only have the problem with my track point though (This is on a Dell e6400 machine which has both a trackpad and a trackpoint). The bug now happens only when using the left mouse button, for example when moving a window, the window would jump back and forth over the screen while displacing it. Sometimes the cursor gets stuck (I can not click anything anymore). Another symptom occurs when using drag&drop; I drag and when releasing the button the file is not dropped. I have to click a few times with the _trackpad_ button in order to make the cursor useable again.
