Crispin, I had to reinstall my system and with the new install the Outlook 2007 tearing problem had returned. I followed this guide http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1130582 and this has resolved the problem. I still need to do more tests on which part actually fixed the issue but I guess the fix is included in the 2.6.30 kernel.
